Universal Cinematic Roleplaying System

Speed, adaptability, and an online support community are at the heart of the Qi system. Unobtrusive system mechanics don't bog the players down with tables or complicated math. Simple, instinctive combat with single test resolution keeps the action moving and the roleplaying flowing. Self-balancing cost systems and modular rules focus on providing maximum flexibility with minimum hassle and allow the players to explore their imagination unrestricted by rigid world backgrounds.  Online tools help you to do everything from building characters, and planning game Realms and Episodes to run, to creating your own customized powers, technology, and abilities.  Qi: Living Energy puts the power of the internet in your hands to create whatever you can imagine and share it with the world.

FX & RuleBenders

FX and RuleBenders are used to create your own customized powers, technology, and abilities.  RuleBenders manipulate the physics of the game and characterize the effects of weapons, equipment, spell casting, massive explosions, alien mental powers.  When selecting a RuleBender, focus on “game effect,” what it will do or how it will affect the environment, the Player and Operator use their imagination to shape the look and feel of the effect.  Select a RuleBender to explain what the FX does in the Realm then customize it with Markups and Discounts that alter the RuleBender and its cost.  Does the FX cause an explosion?  Does it only work at night?  Are there only six bullets in the clip? FX allow you to create anything you can imagine and balance it within the Realm.

RealmBooks

Have you ever wanted to build your own game world?  It’s fast and easy with Qi: Living Energy! Select a Genre and Origin Time where it takes place.  The Genre sets the style of the Realm from Fantasy to Sci-fi.  The Origin Time sets the technology level of the world.  Mix and match styles and time periods to come up with interesting results like science fiction/horror in 1930’s Pulp or fantasy/mystery in the Far Future.  Or create a game where you can travel through time and space and experience a different Realm every time, the choice is yours!

Realm Power Level, RPL or RipPLe, determines how powerful the characters are compared to normal people, how fast that characters will progress and how many FX they will have.  Wound Class Multiplier (WCM) allows you to alter the durability of the characters.  It determines how much damage they can take before things start to go wrong and how long they can hang in a fight.  Maximum Weapon Class (Max WC) sets the lethality of the weapons that are available in the Realm, and puts a cap on the Actor’s destructive potential. 

Apply your own custom rules to your RealmBook to make it work they way you want.  Can everyone fly?  Do they begin as the living dead?  Is the world filled with radioactive hotspots?  Or do you want to change how the system itself works for damage, healing, movement, or whatever you wish.  Qi: Living Energy is designed to be fully adaptable and customizable.  Do anything you want, in any time, anywhere. 

FastDraw(tm) Combat System

Fastdraw(tm) is a simultaneous combat resolution system designed for fast, cinematic gameplay. It’s quick, instinctive resolution strips away lengthy math, complex rules, and long waits for your turn to roll around. Combat maneuvers give the player total tactical control without the grief of complicated systems. From movement to attack actions and dealing out damage, the combat round takes less than 1 minute.  Even large-scale combats resolve in near real time.  No retests, no time stops, no waiting for other players with more actions. Keep the flow of combat fast and furious the way it’s meant to be.

Testing

Fastdraw(tm) allows you to take on single opponents or groups, gang up on difficult opponents, or lead armies into battle with a simultaneous, single-test system.  Find your Advantage or Disadvantage in any situation from skill tests to huge battle scenes with math that is so easy you can do it on one hand!

Testing can be resolved randomly, if you prefer to roll dice, but Fastdraw goes further by allowing you to select your Draw Number.  Pit your skill against your opponents to outwit them.  Can you read them, second guess them and win?

Maneuvers

Combat Maneuvers allow you to take more tactical control of combat than just “swinging again”.   Grapple your opponent to limit his combat options, Sweep them to the ground to take the advantage, or Throw them at each other.  Fights are seldom about taking the same action with the same weapon over and over again. Experience combat that is fluid, where predictability makes you dead and quick thinking and strategy makes you dangerous.

Ranged weapons don’t just shoot people.  Use them to threaten just by pointing them at opponents, lay down covering fire for your friends, or just keep the bad guy’s heads down while you come up with a plan.  Gunplay is not just about damage anymore!

GRAPPLE

Grapple is a maneuver where you grab your opponent and attempt to exercise control over him. When in a progressive Grapple, you can increase the Grapple one level every time you succeed. A second successful Grapple will increase it to Hold, and a third will increase it to Break/Choke. Once a Player is Grappled the attacker is can maneuver around the target in point blank range and even perform maneuvers on other opponents while maintaining the Grapple. Bodyshields anyone?

Sweep
SWEEP

Sweep leaves the target prone where they were, at -2 on the next test, and does damage to the target WITHOUT SUBTRACTING FOR ARMOR.

FASTDRAW

Fastdraw is a skill test in the Combat Sequence to preempt an opponent’s attack.

punch
COVER

Cover is a preemptive maneuver that allows you to avoid having to shoot anyone outright. You declare that you are covering one opponent and preempt any one maneuver they make by instantly dealing full damage to the target and still make an additional maneuver that turn.
